The path to believing in Jesus is lengthy for many people. One must take the leap to trust Jesus, that he preached the truth to us. Afterward, Jesus can apparently help us strengthen this faith, even when we often have doubts again. When I pray, I believe; when I don’t pray, I doubt. But one must endure this constant alternation between faith and doubt. Even saints experienced times of doubt and despair. In the 16th century, John of the Cross described this exactly, and it has been reported by many other saints. I would especially like to recommend the books of Maria Valtorta „The God-Man,“ in which she describes her visions about the life of Jesus. In these visions, Jesus also teaches her how to correctly interpret the New Testament. Pope Pius XII recommended all believers to read these books. Even though Maria Valtorta has not been recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church to this day, she would certainly deserve it.
